dynamic brake

saeedplc Posts: 288 Rating: (4)	hello all experts. can anyone please tell me what dynamic brake and regenerative brake are? when are dynamic brake and regenerative brake used? in cnc machines with simodrive 611d i have seen that when power fails or emergency situation occurs or the drive faults servo motor immidiately stop(not free run to stop). how is motor stopped? thanks. best regards.

PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello, In dynamic braking system, during motor reversal or braking, motor power is fed across the resistor. In regenerative braking motor power is fed in supply system i.e. no external device or resistors are used. Dynamic braking is used in crane or simple V/F application where in application demand is smooth but controlled shut down in specific speed conditions eg. crane application, spindle application. Regenerative braking is used for precise & quickest shut down at different working speed ranges. e.g. motion control, boring spindle etc In case of 611D motor, as you said the motor stops in regeneration mode. saeedplc Posts: 288 Rating: (4)	thank you very much deepstr2010. but when the drive or infeed module faults there is no control on the motor but motor stop immediately (there is no mechanical brake on the motor!) is there a special circuit in the drive or infeed module which do this braking function.? as far as i know the drive doesn't have a circuit to brake the motor and braking the motor is by the infeed module. (simodrive is a special variable frequency drive which braking function is done by infeed module because when the motor decelerate regenerative voltage of motor cause the dc bus voltage (600 v dc) go up and infeed module feed this voltage back to main and cause the motor brake.other companies have vfds which have regenerative or dynamic braking in the drive itself and sometimes external regenerative resistors are used. do you confirm my understandings? can you please tell me more about dynamic and regenerative braking? thanks a lot. best regards.
