AUTOMOTO21 Posts: 147 Rating: (3)	Dears The main challenge in going with Siemens Logo for an ATS application is the extra cost of having to buy a battery charger and batteries just to keep the logo running for the logic. Are there any recommendations on how to do an ATS application on Logo without having to buy extra hardware ? Thank you

AUTOMOTO21 Posts: 147 Rating: (3)	ATS : Automatic Transfer Switch (when the mains power fails the auto transfer switch switches the power source automatically to the Generator based on the PLC outputs) AMF : Auto Mains Failure and it is the same as ATS. (Mains failed, automatic switch to generator) Helmut_13 Hi, what is a ATS application?

Depending on the task, which is to deal with them. Even with larger solutions such as a S7-1xxx you will not get around to guard against failures of the supply voltage. I now do not understand, why the logo is therefore cited as a bad example. Or what do you want to tell us otherwise with your theme? Have I understood something wrong?

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, the problem for such applications is alway the same. This is independant what kind of controller is used. If the controller is powered by the main power and it fails, then all standard controller will be switched off. Workaround: 1. Use second power which at least is able to power the controller till the generator has started and is able to power the controller This second power can be: + a battery, USV, any similar device or a powersupply independant from the main power. Typically a controller has a voltage failure buffering. In case of a LOGO! it is 20ms for a 230V unit. If your generator is able to power LOGO! within this time then no problem. But I belive in 20ms the generator will not be able to do so. I can remember of a MAS 29 ~ 10 years ago. This was a complete example for automatically switching of power networks. But I can't find it any more in Siemens Internet pages. Hope this helps
