Experiments ? Yes ! The greenhouse project is a small and low cost project, but will evolve in the future.

Right now it has an S7-1200 controlling 4 motors for the greenhouse windows, with respect to the temperature read from an inside sensor.

My IoT2040 runs node-red.

I used a Modbus TCP to exchange data with the S7-1200...right now there are about 20 Holding Registers exchanged every 1 second....for the moment it's enough for me. Still doesn't seem to have any issues with more then 20.

I also used it to exchange data with 2 modbus TCP slaves in a different project, around 40 HR every 2 seconds and it worked fine.

It is configured to accept MQTT messages.

It sends and receives HTTP commands to and from a IoT platform (thingspeak.com) every hour.

Also, it is linked to a Twitter account and sends data about temperature and humidity...I can also control it used specific twitter message.

One suggestion could be ,Why are you using modbus tcp not S7? . Because if you go with S7  then you don't have to write any code at S71200 side ( no communication instruction). With S7 you can read and write also.

At the moment I got the IOT2040 the node red S7 node was able only to read data from PLC.

In the near future I plan to use the S7 if read and write functionalities are available.
