RKM Posts: 93 Rating: (13)	Dear all, apart from mentioned detailed differences , main and most important difference of both systems is diagnostics capability. Capacity of diagnostics the problem of itself,its module,its program error, communicaion error, its support system (BAttery for ram, supply voltage, battery life, back plain supply)error , etc are very high in 400. and it has so many LEDs on its CPU to announciate its diagnostics.

But I noticed that one more very important factor between this two PLC is missing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a cost factor. due to that sometimes we have to manage with S7300 PLC just to grab the order with high competition in market.

corleone Posts: 39 Rating: (1)	The S7-300 is considered a mid-level controller, using a serial bus (the modules are connected through a bus connector), with lower memory size and lower transaction speeds than their S7-400 counterparts. They come in a smaller footprint that the S7-400s. The S7-400 CPUs are generally more powerful and faster than the S7-300, and use a rack-based parallel bus that allows faser comms between the CPU and its modules. The S7-400 is the only Siemens CPU that can be mounted in a hot-redundant (hardware) configuration (with specific CPUs involved here, known as S7-400H systems). Siemens also proposes PCS 7, a DCS equivalent based on S7-400 hardware and integrating WinCC as a distributed display and supervision system. S7-300 CPUs can participate in the system, but not as main DCS controllers. That being said, the newer modules of S7-300 (S7-317and S7-319) are quickly becoming as fast and as powerful as the lower range S7-412 CPUs, so the distinction is starting to blur a bit). snoop13014 Posts: 199 Rating: (25)	Hi, - The Multi-computing is possible on S7-400 and not on S7-300 - 4 accumulators on S7-400 and 2 on S7 300, so it's possible on S7 400 to use the instruction "leave" and "ENT" and the way to calculate an Arithmetic operation is not the same on S7 400, so S7 300 program can't work correctly on S7 400 due to the difference of accumulators. - On S7 400 CiR (Configuration in Run) is possible using OB83 (Insert/Remove Module Interrupt), it's possible to replace module during operation avoiding CPU fault. - "Process image partition" is availlable - Hot Restart and Cold restart are availlable on S7 400 And so many other option...
