DavidBrown Posts: 975 Rating: (9)	Last week I had a S7 1500 failsafe plc that already had been used with a safety program. I did not know any passwords of that controller. I did a factory reset by the display on the controller. I thought everything would be cleared, but it seemed the safety password was stil in it. How can this completely be cleared (in case you don't know the passwords)?

If memory card was inserted then Formatting using Display would be of no use. you will have to reset PLC as well as Memory Card. Formatting a memory card can be done with Windows Explorer or with Step7 professional If you want to format the SIMATIC memory card using STEP 7, an online connection to the relevant CPU must exist. The relevant CPU is in the STOP mode. Proceed as follows to format a SIMATIC memory card: 1. Open the Online and Diagnostics view of the CPU (either from the project context or via "Accessible devices"). 2. In the "Functions" folder, select the "Format memory card" group. 3. Click the "Format" button. 4. Click "Yes" in response to the confirmation prompt. Result: ● The SIMATIC memory card is formatted for use in S7-1500 CPUs ● The data on the CPU are deleted with the exception of the IP address

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	From experience with s7-300F it is impossible to clear th MMC once you have a safety password set. It drove me crazy once, then after exhausting all possibilities I plugged the MMC into a PC and used a software (which I don't remember) to write all to zero. I think also the Win format is a good way. There were numerous posts regarding accidental format of the MMC making it unusable, but newer FW in the CPU is able to detect that the card is authentic Siemens MMC and it formats the card to be like new. I think, I had luck. I give no warranty that after you make the MMC unusable it brings back to life.
