It is as if you are planning to build a wooden cabin. Now you are showing us pages from the catalogue showcasing nails. The location, logistics and planned layout is easily more important.

You have not put to "paper" enough information to make an informed recommendation of what you can use.

Conditionally the all DC LOGO can handle 5kHz as input. Inductive sensors are not all at that switching level, most main specifications do not even indicate it.

The problem statement does not clearly define the requirement.

Very simply
- what is the target?
- how fast does it move / rotate?
- what should the LOGO do?
- how accurate should the calculations be?
- digital or analog input?

I’m trying to  adapt a screen on  hoist draglines the will assist me to tell how fast and how far is the wood log....that I’m dragging across the field.   Would be nice if I can see the speed and distance and able to mark a position and logo- would give me worming when I get close to that position marked on the hmi screen logo will not control the motion just give feedback

Sadly when it comes to making suggestions, the description is too abstract. Whatever I contribute now is as encouragement to try but not meant as technical advice or assistance. (Proceed at your own risk.)

Are you measuring the rotation? Any geometry involved or only the rotation? If you tracking the main motor rotation - is there a clutch mechanism involved? Where is the sensing position? What pulse speed does the sensor need to detect?

Keep in mind a pulsing (digital) sensor does not tell you "forward" and "reverse" on its own. There is no compensation for "rope swing" and the rope being under tension or not.

If you are confident in answering the previous and it is within the specified 5000 pulses per second rate that the LOGO can handle - then you are good on your way.

As a helping hand, just keep in mind that you will have to make some "rules" on when the measurement tool will be reliable and when not.

Where is the sensing position? On the fixed holding brackets to hold the drum  on the side of the drum

Now there is a more clear picture to what you are aiming for. It is not what I first thought. I think this is called a "pull rope" measurement. [Deleted Link, see attachment for linked Image]

Now it comes to the heart of the matter, that trumps all other considerations: mathematics.

Can you come up with a formula
that describes the length of "rope" being wound
by the "drum" for each rotation of the drum?

Hint: It is dynamic, varying with the amount of "rope" already on the "drum".

It is this formula that the LOGO should be able to handle with the aid of sensor(s).
