Restore inheritance of queries

Wouter den Haan Posts: 72 Rating: (32)	For several purposes, we have a central collection of queries (stored underneath @20\|A70) that are used on many other base objects. At these base objects, they are added as elements with base object reference to the main query. Theoretically, this means that we should be able to make changes to query stored in @20\|A70, and those changes would be inherited by all queries. What we are seeing, is that, when the main query is changed, the inheritance is only restored after opening one of the inheriting queries and accepting a pop-up message that tells the main query was changed. However, this pop-up message does not always show up, so I am looking for a way to restore inheritance on queries. Hope the question is clear like this. If I were you, I would do the following, from the top to the bottom just as necessary: - I would have a look into the COMOS documentation for this issue, searching with fitting keywords. If necessary, - I would document the whole steps with screenshots in a Word file and post the file here, so that the community can see your exact workflow and issue. Also I would define in it the expected behavior, what the error/bad behavior is from your point of view. - In case the community in this forum cannot help you, I would open a ticket (in case you guess that it is a bug or something like that in COMOS itself) at the Support. www.siemens.com/gtac, just like usual. - In case I had such a software, I would create a video which shows the exact affected version of COMOS, the steps I do, the issue itself and the configuration of your environment. This as an alternative to the Word file, no need to document it twice of course. - Another alternative would be, in case this is the thing you need, to contact the trainers here: https://w3.siemens.com/mcms/plant-engineering-software/de/comos-training/Seiten/Default.aspx By the way: the screenhot I saw here is not an error message, but a question (with question icon) which the user should answer to go on with the workflow. So until now it does not sounds like a bad behavior of the software itself, I'd guess. All the very best, SuperPippo

Open the Base query and save it. Check where all this query is used. Open the query used at various levels and save it. The pop up message will disappear.

Let me try again I was looking for a way to discard all locally performed changes on a query and restore inheritance to the Base object of the query. Just now I stumbled across an option in the interface that does exactly that, so that already helps me a great deal. 'Load from base object/inheritance source' (screenshot attached). What would completely solve my problem is if I could do the following things: Display the inheritance status of a query, so whether it has any local changes or is inherited from the inheritance source Trigger the 'Load from base object' function from script Does anyone know the script functions to do this? If the menu item „Load from inheritance source” is enabled the settings of a query were changed concerning the query inheriting from. We don’t have any other flags to show an inheritance status. ---> There’s no public method to call this functionality. Hoping that this helps you a little bit, with best regards, SuperPippo

You can accomplish this by resetting the XObj of the query: Set some_query.XObj = Nothing When you make local changes to a query the XObj from the basequery is checked in (OwnXObj); by deleting the local XObj Comos will load the XObj from the basequery instead.
