I'm working on a project with S7-1500: CPU 1511-1 PN (6ES7511-1AK02-0AB0) RFID: RF180C and RF340R.

Currently, I'm waiting for the Ethernet (RJ45) connection block (6GT2002-0JD00). Delivery of this item will take at least 4 weeks, but the customer wants the project to be completed by the 25th of this month.

The customer told me that in other machines RFIDs have been connected to PLC with Profibus, and they might have a few spares.

The SIMATIC CM 1542-5 communication module for SIMATIC S7-1500 for PROFIBUS connection.

Is this communication module necessary, or is it possible to connect Profibus devices directly to S7-1500.

this depends on which S7-1500 you have exactly!

If you havve a -3 S7-1500 (1516-3,157-3,1518-4) you can directly connect the PROFIBUS to the PLC, in all other PLC S7-1500 you need this communication module.

it depends on what CPU you have. Some CPU's already have Profibus onboard, others don't. If your CPU doesn't have the Profibus onboard you need the CP.

There are profibus <-> profinet gateway products available that you might be able to use to get these PB RFID devices connected before the customer requested deadline.  You may be able to find those within a few days.
