My point is if you don't like your job, you will not stay in it for long, but you will search for what fits you. By the way, if you are going to choose other job, what would that be?

It was rewarding, interesting, challenging and fun. However, since we have been forced to move to the S7 control system the ammount of true design work has all but dried up and I am now writing SCL / STL blocks for applications engineers to use. Going from 'c' and assembler coding of operating systems, compilers and device drivers to writing trivial monitoring blocks in SCL / STL is a large drop. I am now very bored and underutilised . It is like going from designing a car engine to putting other designers engines in cars. I am now looking for a new job. It is a shame as I love working where I do and I have such good colleagues.

Because it gives me something to do at work when I am bored (which is most of the time at present). I like helping out on here; The varied problems alleviate the boredom to some extent. Veriety is the spice of life so they say. OK it is not what I would like to be doing, but it is better than what they are giving me to do at work. Take now for instance. I am "designing" an SCL block to calculate a limiting turbine temperature. They gave me 12 weeks to do it in. I did it in less that a week whilst taking my time doing it. The test data they gave me is not correct, so I cannot validate my code. So I am now waiting for a response from the turbine design team regarding their test data. Thus I have nothing to do again.

Still it pays the bills I suppose. I would just like to be challenged a bit more technically. smiffy, create challenges for yourself and the end-users you most often support. A few of our regional applications engineers take it upon themselves to write FBs and entire packages to make something work that sounds easy but nobody else has yet figured out how to do. They 'design' and code up FBs to make it dirt simple for us to communicate in ways that would otherwise be very difficult. Sure, theircustom functionblocks are not without the occassional problem because of undocumented built-in function block behavior. It might not be challenging, but it would be highly rewarding to hear the accolades us end users like to give . Just a random thought. I really like my job

I already try to contact the siemens - developers but they dont give me an answer. So I like a FC that convert the data of FB126 DB (that do not have any documentation) into the old diagnostic - DB arrays of FC125, that was used for DP Diagnostic. Depending form ammount of devices. That will help to use old diagnostic screens also with PN - networks. At the moment, I am busy with some projects, but if you are bored, just do a function and give it to the forum! I would need 1 day, you may do it in a half....

Here you find the old but nice FC125: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/6095050 here you find the new but ugly FB126: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/26996747 Target is, to call FB126 for PN/DP diagnostic and the sort the diagnostic information into the fields of same structure like FC125 has done. Please see attachement. It is not a big problem, but you will have a look to both FC125/FB126 first to find out that the structure is very different. Last night I had calls from one operator in Thermal Power plant. He phoned me at least 5 times around 12:30AM and then again around 6:00AM. He couldn't start one client WinCC. This is not a problem since there is one more client WinCC in the second operator room.

An engineer comes back from lunch and sees a group of managers trying to measure the height of the company flagpole. He looks on in amusment, as they are struggling, falling off ladders, dropping the measuring tape etc. It is a complete fiasco. Eventually, he can watch no more. He walks up, pushes the managers asside, pulls the flappole out the ground and lays in down. He then measures it and announces that it is 4.2m high. One manager turn to another and says "Isn't that just typical of an engineer. We ask him how high it is and he tells how long it is.".

An engineer comes back from lunch and sees a group of managers trying to measure the height of the company flagpole. He looks on in amusment, as they are struggling, falling off ladders, dropping the measuring tape etc. It is a complete fiasco. Eventually, he can watch no more. He walks up, pushes the managers asside, pulls the flappole out the ground and lays in down. He then measures it and announces that it is 4.2m high. One manager turn to another and says "Isn't that just typical of an engineer. We ask him how high it is and he tells how long it is.". Good one, same as the previous jokes, really made my day right away, early from the morning. So, to add another, not a typical joke, more of a "moral story" or perhaps a fable. Group of engineers and a group of managers from same company are travelling by train to a teambuilding. Each of managers bought their own ticket, but sitting in the train they wonder, why the engineers bought only one ticket together. So when the fare inspection comes, each manager gives hows their ticket and they see all the engineers close together in the toilet and when the inspector knocks on the door, they just show that one ticket they had. So on the way back, all the managers buy one ticket together, but they see that the group of engineers didn't buy a single ticket at all! When the fare inspection comes, all the managers run towards a toilet and close themselves in there. Then one of the engineers walks to it, knocks on the door and says "fare inspection"... And the "moral of the story" is that this is how it looks, when managers are trying to use engineering solutions.

Not always and not in every meaning of it, but it's better when people know about you something than if they don't know about you at all. Marketing can be weird sh!t sometimes. But obviously, that might not really apply to this area, I don't know. ------------------------------------ Anyways, why don't you simply turn off your work celly during the sleep time? I mean, either you have in your contract 24 hour support and then you got nothing to complain about or you are simply way too commited and you don't have to. Obviously you want to make your custommer happy, everyone does (should), but that doesn't mean you're gonna do anything just to make it happen.

	I dont Like people driving Fast, thats the reason I overtake them ;)
