If someone out there is still encountering that problem, I wanted to add a thing to this thread:

I had the same issue and tried to work my way through it, with what I read here before. The problem is, I had an HMI programmed in V14, and I myself still use V15.1. My company is not willing to upgrade yet.

However, if you have that problem it depends on the issue, that your version, which ever you use, cannot find an image folder in the version you are using. In the directory (in my case the HMI was V14), there was no "image" folder.

So, it should have been here:

C:\Program Files\Siemens\Automation\Portal V15_1\Data\Hmi\Transfer\14.0\images

What everyone else is trying to say before me is, that if in the version you are using, there is no such image folder, you will have to download that DVD version of the version your or using on the HMI and copy the image folder into that path.

In my case I got that problem solved by upgrading the HMI version to 15.1. Because there was an image folder in V15.1 and then I had no trouble transferring to the HMI.

Hi. I had same problem - "missing image file" by downloading the HMI project to USB.

By the way, I already downloaded this project before with the same version of TIA  Portal (Version 16) without any problem and probably after some update get this error.

It means image file I already have in my computer, but updated version of TIA Portal needs new version of image file. (???)

To resolve this problem I changed the version of HMI device in the project (downgrated actualy from 16.0 to 15.0.1) and after this trick downloaded my HMI project without problem.

 Legend, thanks for this. Upgraded from V14.0.0 to V16.0.0 (where I had an 'Images' folder) and it worked first time.

En voulant charger mon HMI j'ai eu le message d'erreur me disant "image manquante ". Je suis en v17 les versions correspondantes bien, tout correspond bien.  Je ne parviens pas aussi à télécharger l'image du panneau.

Du coup je voulais savoir si quelqu'un serait dans la capacité de m'aider.

When I tried to load my HMI I got an error message saying "image missing". I am in v17, the versions correspond well, everything matches.  I am also unable to download the panel image.

So I wanted to know if anyone could help me.

Download preferred image files from

Then overwrite or copy-paste images in the directory (see screenshots).

Worked like a charm.
