Dear experts,

I am trying to use the 6ES7138-6BA00-0BA0 in a ET200SP to read old RS422 encoder.

When I try to use these technological module with the technological axis I cannot select them.

Any hints?

I found it.

By default the module is configured to be used by technology object "Count and measurement".

If I change it to be used by "Positioning" technology object, it become visible as a selection in the axis  configuration.

Any chance you can share you set up the module so that it can be added as a technology object using s7-1200?

I spent more than three hours searching manuals and downloading HSPs and searching the web and as usual, the nightmare continues with siemens.

Edit: I think I was misled by the picture you posted as it showed an S7-1200 CPU and parameters of a technology object but as far as I can read in the manual the only way to use it with an S7-1200 is in

 "Manual operation (without technology object)"

It is S7-1214 firmware v4.1.

When I select TO axis it is V5.0 in TIA Portal V14 SP1

As per documentation, I am not shure it will work. I should be able to do tests in 2 weeks.

How do you want to use this? What type of motion control do you have in mind for the S7-1200?

The only way I can see is to use analog control on the motion control technology object. The encoder input can be set to link to the ET200's counter module. Some picture hints - {see attachment}

 Thanks BOBYCAN, that was helpful. I will not be using the module with a servo drive and I came to the conclusion that in this case I only have access to manual configuration similar to how built-in HSCs are configured.

The firmware on your PLC can be upgraded. Consider upgrading the PLC firmware from V4.1 to V4.2. Then you can use the "newest" motion control version V6.0. There are only advantages for you to upgrade the versions.
