What voltage range do I need to apply to the DC terminals? I think 270 to 324VDC (200 to 240VAC * 1.35).

 Provided the inverter is operated within that Voltage window this will work.

Push the motor faster than the supplied frequency and you can also 'top' the battery up.

Also, this is useful for operation during power failure.

The motor will only drive a small hydraulic pump so no real opportunity for regenerative power.
