Using DM542t Microstepper driver with CPU 1211C

Abdullah_1996 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Dear all, I hope you are doing well. As the topic suggests, I have a DM542t Micro stepper driver that i want to connect to my CPU 1211C. The issue I am facing is that I dont know what the voltage output of the CPU 1211C pins are, is it a fixed 24 volt or does it output depending on the load present on the pin. The DM542T takes in 5 volts for its pulse, direction and enable pins, but it can take in up to 50 volts on the motor output side. Thank you in advance

There are signal boards that output 5v which you can use for your application.

mamax Advanced Member Joined: 6/22/2018 Last visit: 10/21/2025 Posts: 112 Rating: (1)	hello, it depends on the model of your controller. I know that some models accept 24V for the driver input. If not, you can use the 5v 6ES7 222-1AD30-0XB0 module.

All i want to know is that if the pin outputs of the CPU 1211c and 1214 can be used with a 5v board. As per your replies, i can see that the CPU1211c outputs a solid 24 volt. Is there anyway to program it to output less?

If you have relay outputs, you can set banks of digital outputs to be 5V by providing that as the relay source. If you add a 5V digital output module that plugs into the PLC, you can get 5V output (already discussed). If you add another module (to the s7-1214), you can add a relay digital output module and achieve whatever voltage you want. However, a relay output cannot drive PWM or PTO. It can enable and disable at 5V, and send setpoint selections (5V bit selected speeds...). You can keep asking the same question 10 different ways. The answers are going to be the same. That said, you _can_ add voltage dividers to digital outputs to output 24V and pick off 5V with a resistor that do not draw too much current, and when 24V is on, the ratio of the 2 resistors is set to obtain ~5V (within tolerance for the DM542t). I did some testing on my own and I found that adding a 2k ohm resistor in series with the micro stepper driver and the pin output, the voltage will be reduced to 5 volts. After doing so, i found that the voltage drop at the driver pins reduced to 3.7 rather than 5 volts. I think that can be rectified but adjusting the connected resistor. I would like to ask if there is a recommended type of resister to use or if there is a ready made plugin like you mentioned on the post. I did i quick research and i found a 5v to 24v input module, but i did not find one for the output. I don't mind soldiering a few resistors parallel to the wire, but I would appreciate if there was a cleaner option.
