I have two lathes at work with  control 840D(MMC100.2  V.1.01)These controls are about 16 years old .One lathe has more travel in the x-axis  and I want to increase  the travel limits on the second lathe.I compared the axis-specific MD parameter 36110 on both machines and they were different (9 for the lathe with the most travel and 2 for the other).I changed the value from 2 to 9 on the second lathe  and instead of alarm (10621 Channel%axis %2 resets on software limit switch%3) i got (10720 Channel  %1block % 3axis%2 software limit switch %4) alarm.I still have more travel available before hitting limit switches so it seems like a software issue.Any help on how to change x-axis limits would be appreciated as I don't have any idea on what I'm doing

Please check the setting value is correct i.e. MD36100 is POS_LIMIT_MINUS & MD36110 is POS_LIMIT_PLUS. Please check & confirm the values in MD36100 & MD36120, these are for minus soft limit & MD36110 & MD36130 are for plus soft limit. Please confirm you are modifing the correct desired limit. Please also note, if the axis is linear then unit if mm & if rotary unit is in degrees. After modifing MD, press activate MD softkey or reset key on MCP.

For 10720 details, please refer attached sheet.

Also please check working area limits in setting data.

Both machines are the same for all these settings .The only difference was 36110 which when made the same for both machines I got alarm 10720 instead of 10621

Now please press MACHINE key then -------> MENU key button then --------> press horizontal softkey PARAMETER then screen will change, now press ------> Seeting data horizonatal softkey, in the same screen select WORK AREA LIMIT vertical soft key.

Window will display working axis limit values. Here check X axis plus area limit & change it to 9. 

Now check.

Not necessary to switch OFF power, MD modification are effective after pressing either reset key or presseing Set MD soft key. 

So now the alarm 10621 is displayed, its ok, because now the slide is exactly at a position of software limit (please check X axis actual value on display in MCS mode,). Move the axis in reverse direction & press reset key, the alarm should get reset. This is how you could extend or modify software limit.  

Do you get desire position? If not increase both the limits i.e. work area limit & software limit value.

 You don't answer my question, that OK , I think you made power off and on so many times, as you have trouble. Just make sure, Your problem is very funny, I have about 20 years 840Dpower line services experiences, never meet case like yours.There must be some thing wrong. more important is maybe machine builder hiding something, so why you don't call them to help.

In my shop , we have Index, and DMG, they all made something special than Siemens standard.

such as you cannot use MDI on m/c they not allow you to. Such as DMG made lubrication PLC program very completed --a simple thing but they don't want you to know, they want to you call them for services.

SW limit is normally  very easy case.

We have Siemens 840D controller DMG MORI MF65 Machine.

We recieved same problem alarm 10720 channel 2 block axis x2 software limit switch.

It is Mechanical problem Burr is trapped between X2 axis drive belt after removing Burr problem is solved.

Another reason is that drive belt is slep from servo motor drive.

I attached the photo of Burr trapped between servo motor drive and belt
