I work in a technical college and there's only the license of Step 7 Lite and there's no way to upgrade to Step 7 v5.6.

So, what to do to run Step 7 Lite on windows 10 ?

Is there another way other than VM ? It would be a bit difficult for the course trainer and the trainees to run VM + the college policy won't allow VM software + college IT dep. has put win XP out of training order means it's not allowed to install win XP on any PC.

So the only solution left is to run Step 7 Lite directly on win 10.

And it worked before couple years on a previous win 10 update, but with the current update the Step 7 Lite stopped working.

Considering that (according to Wikipedia) Windows 10 has been released in 2015, so years later, I think you were already quite lucky that it seemed to have worked for a while. Anyhow: as ChristophD wrote, set up a VM on your PC and install a OS to which Step7 Lite is officially compatible. Or set up a PC directly, in case you cannot use VMs.

And I think I read somewhere that there are some tools to do it. But I searched back for that post but didn't find it.

Anyway, our head dep. has emailed a request to the college's dep. to buy the new version of Step 7.

Anyway, our head dep. has emailed a request to the college's dep. to buy the new version of Step 7.

We decided to install Win on half of the computers to run MPLAB IDE and WinXP on the other half to run Step 7 Lite.

And problem solved on our behalf, now the remaining problem is that WinXP is discontinued to install in the college labs but as long as the computers aren't connected to internet it shouldn't be a huge problem.
