hinjak Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am a student of electrical engineering, I got the task (my mentor) to develop the application in a programming language and establish communication with S7-200. I have read user guide and how I could understand the only way to achieve via the Freeport mode (XMT and RCV) because the private Siemens PPI protocol and is closed to the public. If I missed something? I have a S7-200 (CPU 222) without additional equipment and USB / PPI Multi-Master cables. The idea is the following: Create a program in the step7 microWIN that will check what comes in the port 0, to recognize the command that you receive and, depending on the query to answer (I think that Siemens has no interpreter). Do I think correctly and that my task in this way can be resolved . Is there still a solution? Well came to me the advice of experienced engineers, because I am a beginner.

Arunakat1 Posts: 217 Rating: (52)	Hi, Perhaps you can use mod bus protocol. One of my colleges does a same kind of project using mod bus protocol. Actually he uses the mod bus blocks (in micro win) to reach the cpu and read/write data through mod bus protocol. And he was successful. Unfortunately I can’t tell more about it (it’s not my project). But I think you should check that too. Regards.

I have just S7-200 (CPU 222) without additional equipment and USB / PPI Multi-Master cable. USB cable is the biggist problem.I wanted to do an application in VB 2008 express but I do not know yet how to trannsmit data via USB port. In any case thanx for your suggestion. Others read only,any solutions, suggestions? I'm wait... Thanx in advance

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, you are right. Freeport is only supported by RS485 (onboard PLC Interface) and the RS232 PC/PPI cable. Basically you need to select what kind of communication you want to use. 1. Freeport (Modbus, ASCII, .. 2. Siemens protocolls (PPI with S7-200) Then you have to know what interface you have at your PC. If only USB is available, then you can not do freeport, but Siemens works For your USB cable here some possibilities: 1. S7-200 PC-Access (OPC-Server specially for S7-200, supports any com-adapter incl. USB PC/PPI cable) 2. SimaticNet OPC-Server (OPC-Server for all Siemens controller, I don't know if USB-is supported) 3. Libnodave (Free OPC-Server supports also S7-200, I don't know if USB is supported) google for this I can noit say which one is the best for you. Is your focus on cost reduction then libnodave is an option. But if you are on time pressure then other option may be better, but this depends on your application. If you need to get data into a Excel chart and you have no experiances then PC-Access is best. Hope this helps
