Hi all.

I'm having some issues writing some variables to an excel sheet and I was hoping for your input. First, what I am using:

WinCC Advanced V16 U6. The panel is a generic PC with RT Advanced V16 running on it. I made a VB script but it is failing somewhere, and the "MsgBox" function is not available on my RT version for reading out errors.

The .xslx file already exists as I placed it there. I do not need WinCC to make it as I will be using other sheets of the document for other stuff:

The file path should be correct.

But insted you can use ShowSystemAlarm for debugging information (without real debugging).

Which this systemfunction you can fire a systemalarms and in an Alarm view or alarmwindow just activate the systemalarms to see it. Then you can do outputs in your script also with values and so on.

Perhaps it helps to find the issue 

I made an attempt using ShowSystemAlarm based on this post: Sys alarm, where entry ID 102378895 was referenced. I skipped the part where the script was ran from a button, and I added this to my script:

However I do not get any of the texts associated with "1" or "2" in the alarm list. So I guess either my script is not running at all, or the code I added ShowSystemAlarm is faulty. 

For kicks I added the part where they run the script from a button, and then the script runs and writes to the excel sheet. So, my problem all along is that the script is not running. A quick google search led me to this post where you and Prof. Frink helped solve how to activate a script from PLC. I followed that and now everything is good. Thanks!

so for example

I have another script (a functional script) where I write the time and date from runtime to the PLC, and there I use "HmiRuntime.SmartTags" for reading and writing tags. How come I should use "SmartTags" instead?

Another question, unrelated to writing the values to excel but regarding VB syntax. I am trying to have the row it writes to as a variable, then define what row to write to depending on some logic to avoid a lot of redundant code:

This won't work, nothing is written anywhere, but if I write a number in the place of "Row" instead then it writes to the correct place. 

Is there something wrong with the syntax for what I am trying to achieve?

add an ELSE to the IF-clause, there write another value to "Row" and then test again.

I added an Else with "Row = Row", but still no values are written to those cells. 

I guess I cant do "Row = Row"? Or am I messing up some other way?

Turns out the "Row = Row" was functioning fine.

I was observing over two days, and I noticed it would write to the values sometimes but not always. It turned out to be because of the refresh rate for a tag I used in the script, which was 1 second, and sometimes the script would "miss" the tag change.
