Very basic question.

Can you please advise how to copy the screen from the other project?

I renamed the old screen in the original project and copy and pasted the screen from the other project (the same name of the screen from the previous revision of the project).

Now i have compiler upset becasue some scripts got automatically changed its code to refer to the old screen which was renamed.

I was bit hesitant to remove the old screen and then paste because i thought it would break some scripts which would require manual fixing.

The following guess should work if there is any sanity in how TIA Portal works.

Drag and drop the screen page from the project into the library section. Specifically: Libraries > Project Library > Master Copies. The linked objects should also carry over to the project library.

From the project library you can drag the objects into your other project or copy the objects into a newly created Global Library.

Let us know if these notes lead to any progress.

I am trying to relate to my post. In practice when i am copying the screen from the previous version of the project shall i do the following?:

1 From the master project Copy current screen to the Deprecated folder in the project library

2 from the previous version of the project copy the screen into the project library of the master project

3 in the master project, copy the screen to the screens section

• is my sequence of steps correct?
• in step 1 if i Cut and pasted rather than copy and pasted to the deprecated folder - could it break something if the screen was complex?
• apart from obvious benefit of keeping previous versions in the project library is there any other benefit when copy/pasting from the other project to the project library rather that pasting directly to the screen section? or is there nothing special when copy / pasting to the project folder?
• I assume if we want to keep the original screen it should never be renamed as this operation might alter some links to the dependant objects which would break the functionality?

You are reading more in the picture that I have intended you to. The folders within "Master copies" is what I use to manage the development of a current project. That is not part of the discussion -- sorry for the false route.

What happens if you drag and drop a screen page into the "Master copies"? Does the linked objects also move with it? My guess is only helpful if the linked objects move also.

Many thanks for the clarification. I will use the habit of creating folders in the project library as it simplifies the development - definately a good idea.
