WinCC 7.5 SP2 and VMWare ESX

aleksy_koza Joined: 11/16/2023 Last visit: 12/21/2025 Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Dear collegues! We have problem with WinCC 7.5 on VM hosted by VMWare ESX. We connects S7-1500 PLCs using OMS+ driver. With 5-7 CPUs all is OK. But there is no any connection between WINCC and CPU's in project with 15 CPUs. If one will wait 15-20 minutes after WinCC startup then connections will be established to allmost all CPU's (not every time). We tried to activate connections one by one using connection enable/disable tags. All is OK in this case. It looks like WINCC can't establish connection to many CPUs at the same time. Maybe someone has expiriense with VMWare ESX and WinCC? Is our problem connected with WinCC or with VMWare?

Jesper_TIC Member Joined: 12/1/2022 Last visit: 1/5/2026 Posts: 20 Rating: (0)	Hi I think the standard WinCC 7.5 license only comes with 8 connections, you need to bye a SOFTNET-IE S7 license for up to 64 connections. I have had the same issue. It is very difficult to se that WinCC 7.5 license only support a certain number of connections in the documentation.

Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 1/9/2026 Posts: 16629 Rating: (1944)	Hello which Operating System do you use? desktop operating systems do have only a few communication ressources. if you have a lot of TCPIP connections (WinCC Server/Client, OPC, S7, Modbus.....) then you would need a server operating system Of course also a big Simatic Net license is needed but the connections should also work if this license is not on the system (but license warning should appear) Bye Murof
