TIA Portal Online HELP:

All blocks of the user program must have unique numbers. However, your program contains two or more blocks with identical block numbers. Such number conflicts can occur, for example, when blocks are copied between different CPUs.

Remedy

To correct the block numbers, follow these steps:

1. In the project tree, open the "Program blocks" folder and check which blocks are affected by the number conflict. Note that these blocks may also be system blocks.

2. Select the block whose number you want to change and select the "Properties" command in the shortcut menu.

   The "Properties" dialog box opens.

3. Correct the block number in the "General" area:

   • Select the "Manual" option and enter a new, unique number.

   or

   • Select the "Automatic" option to have number conflicts corrected automatically during the next compilation.

As you can see in my screenshot I have automatic assignment selected for all of them. Why didn't they get automatically changed when I made the copies?

And what compile function are you talking about? I went to Edit->Compile and they didn't change.

 If I were one of the developer , I  would keep the priority concept over symbolic or absolute addresses. But in TIA Portal the concept of absolute addresses are faded to make programming easier . I did the compiling in the YouTube attached video in the 1st post.

Newer TIA Portal packages are more stable and you have all tools in an integral manner. It is easy to handle like classic STEP 7 while graphically more pleasing.

I have worked with many platforms , when you can understand and work with SIMATIC packages you can master others easily.

Appreciate this is a very old thread but every other search result is related to copying data from one DB to another (which never gives me problems!). Anyway I tried the same suggestions here, they not only didn't work but my code happily compiled error free even though there were multiple instances of duplicate DB numbers! So far the only way I have sorted this is to go in and manually change every DB number after copying and pasting. There must be a better way... Templates or something??

The situation has not changed up to V17. I doubt there is a change in V19. It should be possible to create an add-in for higher Step7 versions. Or create a Openness application / script.

One workaround idea.. Export the DB to a source text file. Edit the source file. Copy the coding for the DB several times. Ensure the DB names of each copy is unique. Import the edited source text into Step7. 

It is unfortunately not possible to specify what the DB numbers should be. It will be generated automatically.
