I am using TIA 18 and WinCC unified and have had some conflicting responses regarding process tag logging. We have purchased the license for "SIEMENS SIMATIC WinCC Unified V18 Database Storage". 

One party claims:

• The base package of WinCC Unified includes up to 5000 logging tags. So you likely do not need an additional Logging Tag license.
• The WinCC Unified V18 Database Storage, option was included because you required this to integrate to a third party database (ie: historian)

While the other party claims:

• Since you have the WinCC Unified Database Storage , you still need to purchase the logging license as per SiemensCatalog - ST 80/ST PC: Human Machine Interface Systems/PC-based Automation
• Yes, you will need a logging license that is licensed for the proper number of tags.  The database storage is optional, although since it has been purchased you may as well use it.
  

When I simulate my current program and try logging any process tags, it sets it to demo mode and asks for a logging license.  Am I approaching this wrong?  Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

In Unified Comfort Panels a logging license is not necessary but in WinCC Unified Runtime PCs, apart from the "WinCC Unified Database Storage" license, you need one for "WinCC Unified Logging Tags". You can find this information on page 82 of the following document: Configuring Logging for SIMATIC WinCC Unified Systems

the only difference between the basic functionality and the Database Option for WInCC Unfiied PC RT is:

Basic: -> SQLite is used for logging

Optional: -> SQL Server is used for logging

the SQL Server can handle more data and so on...

I still need to clarify something if possible... I'm using WinCC Unified Runtime v19. Considering I dont't have "WinCC Unified Database Storage" or "WinCC Unified Logging Tags" licenses, should I be able to log tag values using SQLite (file-based)?

If not, I must have these 2 licenses the others mentioned, right? (of course the required amount of tags would be considered for Logging Tags)
