Nothing in the real world is "unlimited".

What *exactly* are you trying to do? 

A forever rolling window trace?

Store very large number of traces stored in a drive?

Something else?

While we can take unlimited traces on S120 drives in Starter, we cannot do so in V18 Startdrive. Can we take unlimited traces in the newer versions? If not, what is the reason for this? Taking traces shouldn't be this difficult. It shouldn't be too hard to have this functionality for the G120 series as well.

Maybe I want to monitor the driver's operation in the system for half an hour. Maybe I want to check whether there are any fluctuations in the input phases of the driver. There could be various reasons for this, and it is unrelated to this topic.

1. Such a feature exists, so why can I use it in one Siemens application but not in another?

2. Why are the trace recording durations in the G120 series so limited?

There might be a technical reason behind this that I am not aware of. If so, I would like to understand it.

In my experience with S120 VFDs (using Starter), I have *never* been able to monitor much of anything more than ~8s. 

Tricks I've used:

• When to trigger starting of the 8s window
• If I need more precision (faster trace data) or fewer data points, or use less time (since the # of traced values is limited)
• Trigger from a PLC generated bit (unused control word bit maybe, or bit in an unused telegram word).

I think I just realized what you meant.  You mean LIVE data monitoring with StartDrive running and you are standing there capturing data to your PC.

You can make that "8s window" "unlimited" in S120 drives. I uploaded a photo because I wasn't sure we were talking about the same thing.
