CPU Memory

RAJKIRAN Silver Member Joined: 8/18/2009 Last visit: 7/28/2025 Posts: 558 Rating: (33)	Dear Expert, I want to select 300 series CPU for one project, but how can calculate CPU memory with respect to IO's means limitation of CPU memory. In my project, Total IO's are 158. DI - 94, DO- 48,AI-12,AO-4. so which is minimum cpu memory required for this. what is standard CPU memory selection upto above IO's. Also could you tell me which manual is for reference so that I got more Information.

Darius Platinum Member Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 12/9/2025 Posts: 2957 Rating: (243)	Hello, The lowest possible S7-3xx CPU is 312 and it has 256 digital input channels, 256 digital output channels, 64 analog input channels and 64 analog output channels. So the lowest possible PLC can handle your I/O. Other question is your program that can handle these IO. So thats why you need more work memory. 312 has only 32kB of work memory which I think can be not enough. If program is simple then ok. If you have possibility to write program prior buying PLC then ok. Write program and you can check how much memory you need under blocks property. So its up to you - buy bigger PLC or write program and possibily save some money.
