MM440 tripping on F004

The Keeper Advanced Member Joined: 4/6/2006 Last visit: 9/8/2025 Posts: 24 Rating: (2)	I have a MM440 drive that is tripping on F004, when checking R037, inverter temperatures, the chip temperature rises during starting of the drive. The drive will then trip on F004 and then the chip temperature goes back to normal. Checked the output current and it is going up as well. Drive is running in Sensorless vector mode. Changed mode to Volts per hertz and tried starting the drive and it tripped on overcurrent. We found that the motor was locked up. Is this standard fault for a locked up motor when operating in sensorless vector?

Is this standard fault for a locked up motor when operating in sensorless vector? 1. Since the motor is locked, motor was drawing more current which causes temperature rise those results in drive tripping. F004 is for “Inverter over temperature”. Please check the current setting of your drive. 2. In case of V/F mode have you carried out the retunning of drive & motor? Please check.

The Keeper Advanced Member Joined: 4/6/2006 Last visit: 9/8/2025 Posts: 24 Rating: (2)	The motor is rated at 168 amps the drive is a 6SE6440-2UD38-8FA1, which is rated at 178 amps constant torque mode and 205 amps variable torque mode. The motor overload capacity is set at 180%. No, I didn't retune the drive when I switch it to V/Hz mode, I only changed it to try it, wasn't going to leave it in that mode. This was also done before we found out the compressor/motor was locked up.
