Fast inputs: How do I know what input to use in DB10?

What I mean is I write $A_IN[10] in the CNC code how would that transfer over into the DB10? Would it be like DB10.DBX10? This is what I am having a hard time understanding... thanks for any help! Here is what I am trying to do in the CNC I am trying to monitor the contour and I will use this input into PLC to activate the emergency return. But not sure how to set up the DB 10 input??? $MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1]=.300 IDS=1 WHENEVER $VA_LAG_ERROR[SP1]>$MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1] DO $A_IN[1]

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi The simple answer is you look in the documentation and it will tell you. Problem is that inputs go from the plc to the part program. You need an output to go from the part program to the plc. In which case you may as well use an M code. Pee

But really if everyone is just supposed to look into the documentation to figure stuff out then why have a forum? I thought the forum was here to seek answers from experts in a timely manner without having to looking through 20 different manuals to find anwers or contact Siemens? Anyway I did look into this and I think it has something to do with 10350. The machine I am referring to has 10350=5 and the input is DB10.DBX190.1 So how did they come up with this number? Right now I have now idea.... but thanks for your help I guess I will call the experts... or figure it out myself... But on the M code. So I would make an M code in Step 7 and have the same M code in the NC code? Thanks for any help you can provide....

Anyway... as I said I came here seeking answers from experts in this forum because Siemens suggest that I come here firstinstead of call them. I am sure that EVERY DETAIL is in the manuals so why have a forum. All the forum experts here should just point everyone that post to the manual section or DOConWEB area.... what you saying makes no sense. This forum is to educate people because you all are supposed to be the experts recommended by Siemens. From the beginner to the advanced person that post here should feel free to ask any question and you all should be respectful enough to answer. But that is ok. Luckily I can usually figure stuff out myself. But I guess I shouldnt post any more questions on here... I will just call up Siemens and waste their time plus let them know the failure I had on their forums........ but thanks anyway... at least I got a response but still no answers.....

But actually the input in the code above was my mistake I already did have an output there. Now I am have a syntax error... so I am trying to learn NC code now...lol But thanks anyway.... But I will have to look into how to create an M code in the PLC from the NC code. Not sure how to match it up yet... thanks for your input though! it is appreciated. What I am trying to do is an IDS=1 synchronization to turn on "emergency retract" with contour monitoring variable when it goes over its max. So I have to set up an IDS=1 to turn it off at the beginning of cycle until it is in cut program and turn back on the emergency retract because the emergency retract comes on too soon because of start up of motor torque...... $MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1]=1.0000 IDS=1 WHENEVER $VA_LAG_ERROR[SP1]>$MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1] DO $A_OUT[11]=0 (now cut program starts) $MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1]=.250 IDS=2 WHENEVER $VA_LAG_ERROR[SP1]>$MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1] DO $A_OUT[11]=1 (different part of cut program) $MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1]=.300 IDS=3 WHENEVER $VA_LAG_ERROR[SP1]>$MA_CONTOUR_TOL[SP1] DO $A_OUT[11]=1 So not sure if this is howto do this... I am noteven sure if I need to look at the LAG_ERROR... but this was suggested by Siemens support... have a great day!

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, If this solution works in practise for you then great. If you have problems then you will be changing the contour tolerance without activating the new value so you may as well use a local variable. If your output does not reset or even go to a one then look at the other values in the db about overwriting screen values. If the new coutour tolerance value is activated then the NC error checking may stop you with an error and affect emergency retract. If you have it availble I would have checked power/current usage on the spindle instead. Hope you get a working safe machine. Pee
