Use integer to set Discrete Alarms

tmcbob Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	I have a project with a S7 315 plc and a TP 177B color PN/DP. In the plc I have a IB that represents incoming alarms from a external device. The device sends a number from 0 to 254. Each number represents a specific and unique alarm. Is there a way to use this number directly to set the discrete alarm, or do I have to split this up in several words/bytes like usual (use 8 alarms a byte)? And if I have to divide this byte into several bytes, is there a specific instuction or functin block for this? Thanks, Bob

The Body Posts: 836 Rating: (71)	Hi tmcbob, you can create a textlist with all the 255 entries (message texts from the external device). This Textlist will be used now in a discrete alarm instead of (or in addition to) a message text. The discrete alarm must be triggered by a bool tag from the PLC. Every time the byte is changing, this bool tag will switch from 0 to 1.

If I setany number (from 0 to 254) in the messagenumber, and I thenset the trigger bit from the PLC, I do get a text from the textlist but it is always the same text (the one on value 0 of the textlist) even when I set the default of the textlist on another value. Did I forget anything? Hope anyone can help me. Thanks, Bob

The Body Posts: 836 Rating: (71)	Hi Bob, check the textlist in the alarmtext once again. This textlist must be feed by the byte tag. For figure out what's getting wrong, use this textlist also in a symbolic I/O-field on the screen and choose the byte tag as the process tag also there.

The Body Posts: 836 Rating: (71)	Hi Bob, try to switch the "Acquisition mode" of the two tags to "Cyclic continous". Trigger your message with a short delay, so that you can be shure the panel has already read the byte tag. A very similar case was done here: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/29522676
