Sinumerik 810D CCU3 - SHORT CIRCUIT BURNED

Repina Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Equipment: Cnc machining center / Siemens 810D V1.1 (shopmill) CCU3 Hi. I recently had my CCU3 card burned out along with a 50A drive module (IGBT). I have been working with the machine for 2 years and there has never been an alarm on a servomotor or any other. It happened suddenly, the machine was on and had already worked for a few hours that day. When the operator returned from lunch, by releasing the emergency button and turning on the cnc, the machine sparked some sparks through the NCK card slot and caused this damage to the photos below. Could anyone give me an idea of what check I could do in order to prevent it from happening again with the new equipment? Remembering that the machine has already worked for 2 years in our factory. thanks in advance. Attachment 1.jpg (282 Downloads)

PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello Mr. Renato, I would like to share my opinions on your system problems as below. 1. 810D system is old system which has compact NCU & drive system. 2. IGBTs failure could be bacuase of component edging, overloading, overheating or due to short circuit i.e. dust accumulation. 3. IGBTs input supply is DC high voltage bus & 5 Volt is control supply. IGBT short circuit means short circuit of DC & AC supply. This heavy short circuit is enough to damage electronic components on nearby circuits & cards. 4. This was one of the draw back & that is how in next 840D generation, NCU & drives are housed in separate cabinets. 5. To avoid this problem in future, I suggest you to conduct periodic as well as preventive maintenance of cabinet & module. Hope this help.

Repina Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	hello dear Piscean. thank you very much for your explanations. now it all makes sense to me. actually the 50A driver (IGBTs) and CCU3 were very contaminated and with inefficient fans. most likely this was the cause of the problem.
