Communication with scale head using Modbus TCP/IP.

smilee Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	I'm supporting a project that has: a Control PC, an Automation Direct P2-550 PLC, and a Rice Lake 880 scale head. The devices are connected through a Stride SE switch in the panel. The scale head communicates using Modbus TCP/IP. We've been having a sporadic issue where the PC momentarily stops receiving updates from the scale head, leading to inaccuracy in our control. My suspicion is that the scale heads aren't able to serve the data as quickly as we are requesting it, but I haven't ran a packet capture yet to isolate modbus exception codes. My fear is that modbus may not be the most appropriate protocol for this application. Anyone experienced similar issues or have any advice? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Split from Redundant Modbus TCP/IP with 412 5H CPU.

Are you asking for help on Modbus/TCP and the Automation Direct P2-550 PLC? In this case this site might not be the right selection for support, we work with Siemens CPUs. Automation Direct provides good support for their controllers generally, you should try to contact them. Are you asking for Modbus TCP hints without taking into account the hardware involved? Sme of us have enough experience with Modbus TCP exchanges and might be able to provide some help, Wüstenräuber and Kaulqappe for example have already participated in this thread. But for them to do that we need to see the exception codes from the Modbus TCP partners involved, to understand what is happening in your projevct a bit better. What software are you running on the PC, and does it act as client or server on the network? Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
