TTL signals both ways to and from S71500T

Ziemens Gold Member Joined: 3/2/2007 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 1002 Rating: (5)	We need to use a TTL external encoder, as synchronous master, in a Tia v17 project, with S7-1516T plc and CU320-2 PN for S120 drives . Which modules should we use to connect the encoder signals ? Also, we have to send an image of one axis position, as TTL signals, to other machines . Which modules are suitable for this ? In both the above cases, the signals are very fast . 6ES7516-3TN00-0AB0 , 6ES7954-8LL03-0AA0 , 6SL3040-1MA01-0AA0 , 6SL3054-0FB01-1BA0-Z F02 , 6SL3120-1TE21-8AD0

jacek d Platinum Member Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 1/16/2026 Posts: 5155 Rating: (772)	External encoder connection: 6SL3055-0AA00-5Cxx (SMC30) to connect via Sinamics 6ES7551-1AB01-0AB0 (TM PosInput 2) to connect directly to S7-1500T Encoder emulation: 6SL3055-0AA00-3Pxx (TM41) to connect via Sinamics However I'm not 100% sure if the mentioned Sinamics devices can operate under control of TOs of an S7-1500T.

However, you will want to make sure your PLC input module is capable of performing whatever tasks you need from an encoder input, like speed or period or whatever is really needed. Ziemens can we use an S7-1500 module instead of the TM41 ? to have all modules of same family .
