Just a follow up question to your answer. We have S7 300 with Sinumerik840dsl controller for a CNC machine. I was successful in making a connection to PLC using snap7 (infact snap7 python wrapper) and read a DB. But I am more interested in reading one of the parameter from NCU of the machine (like spindle motor power).

Do you think it could be possible with snap7 to access NCU via PLC?
Sorry if its not very much related to this discussion . I just need some suggestions on this.

Easy to check. Is NCU available as same as S7 controller via MPI or IP address? It offers same system of S7 communication driver? This info you need check on Snap7 documentation. On other side, you can easy create some user defined optional DB or memory area on PLC S7 of CNC and copy required data to this DB for external access from Snap7, in case that NCU is not accessible. This I see as easy and best option how access data from NCU.
