We have a problem with new barcode reader connection to S7-1200. Old barcode reader has "died" so we have replaced it with a new, 100% same model; only difference - firmware version. We have not made any changes - reader has a same IP address and copy-paste settings from an old one. We see the device in network, but PLC do not see it.

Any ideas?

all depends to what interface and protocol it use. It needs more deep look at PLC code how it is exchange data with reader or clear info from you about exact protocol used. With ETH interface it can have different protocol used - OUC, PN, ETH/IP, It is not easy like just replace with new one. If you can attach here ZIP file with JPGs from HW cfg of PLC inside Network view or check if some comm blocks are used inside PLC code - TCON, TRCV or TRCV_C blocks.

I forget to say one important thing, also correct info from manufacturer is required for sure. Is also possible that with new firmware also new GSDML file is required due specific changes to version. This I expect in case of PN type you have.

Thanx for reply, but as I have said - IP address, Name, all settings - new reader is 100% configured like the previous one - that's the challenge. The only difference - firmware of the reader is newer. But according to SICK technician - it is not so important - device should still be discoverable by PLC. Anyway I have tried to upgrade reader function block. Here we come to a second issue - PLC was programmed in TIA13 SP1 by a different person - unreachable now. I have installed same version TIA 13 SP1, but I can not download anything from PLC - "The upload of the hardware configuration failed (D0FA)" - this is the problem I have to solve first of all.

 Thank You for reply. All system use PN protocol and yes, I also suspect that firmware version is the problem, but as I have just written to Einstein - first I have to solve problem with downloading data from PLC.

I recommend maybe check again initialisation procedure of that scanner, maybe preconfigurate it as is expected with some Sick SW. With upload via different TIA versions I can recommend typical Topic inside Industrail Software Conference: Upload PLC prg - different TIA version

This is what is not clear to me, you've preconfigured this device prior use or you simply describe cfg from PLC cfg options? You see IP of it via what diag option or SW? Can you show us finally some screenshots that shows your device available on 'network' because I don't understand where you have test this?

First of all I preconfigure reader in Sopas: assign correct name, IP address and dozens other settings - so yes, new reader is physically configured the same way as the old one. How can I see it is in network - I configure it through the network hub - if it is not online - how could I do it? I get positive ping reply from the IP I have assigned, so I am 100% sure it is online and IP address assigned correctly. But when in TIA accessible device list I can see PLC, SMC mainfolds, Beijer control panel, Crevis terminals - but not SICK reader...
