Measuring cycle version

Marco_Bol Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi, I’m working in a small work-shop; we have 4 cnc-controls with Sinumerik 840D.Now when we received our newest lathe I saw that the Siemens measuring cycle version is 07.03.06.00, in another of our machines we have 06.03.24.00 and 05.????.Now I’m curios to see the difference between the measuring versions, but I can’t found any explanation about it, not in the manual (BNM) or on Siemens homepage.Where can I found this info?Thanks Marco

As functions are introduced into the NC, HMI, PLC,and Cycles they are developed and integrated together. This means that there a lot of backwards compatibility, but forward compatibility has some software compatibility requirements. (Cannot take the cycles and support from 2009 and put them on an HMI/NCU from 1999 without expecting incompatibilities to exist) The newer cycles support more and different functions than the old. The particulars of the functional changes are wide, so there is not much point in going into them. The important part for the end user is that the interface for the cycles is relatively constant, which means that programs written for older versions of the measuring cycles tend to work fine in the newer versions. The only exceptions will be custom versions of the cycles (modified by the builder, or by contract to the developers of the cycles), which may be different than standard. I would expect you have standard versions of the cycles, which means that if you wrote your programs for a previous version of the cycles that they would have a high probability of working fine in the newer versions of the measuring cycles.

RAM81 Silver Member Joined: 3/3/2008 Last visit: 4/9/2025 Posts: 333 Rating: (52)	hi Marco, the new 840D machines comes with the system software V7.2 or V7.4 so they will normally load the compatible measuring and standard cycles.may be that is the reason you see the difference. also there will be continuous improvemnets in the measring cycles and these changes made are normally included in a readme file inside the tool box cd. just check any cd you may have received along with the machine. with regards ram
