Using device proxy to connect to a CP module for ethernet connection

aamirawan91 Regular Member Joined: 3/6/2022 Last visit: 7/2/2025 Posts: 119 Rating: (3)	I have a 315-2 DP CPU that was programmed using Simatic Manager. The CPU doesn't have a built-in Profinet port. Therefore, a CP module with an Ethernet port was later added to it, and the hardware configuration in Simatic Manager was updated. Now, I need to connect this PLC to a PC station with TIA v16 WinCC Professional for a SCADA project. I know that I'll have to use the device proxy option in TIA v16 to connect with the PLC programmed with Simatic Manager, but there's a confusion. When I initialize the PLC project, it obviously doesn't migrate the entire hardware configuration. Consequently, the CP module won't show up, and the CPU itself doesn't an Ethernet port. Moreover, the PC system on which the runtime will run doesn't have a Profibus adapter; it only has a network adapter with an Ethernet port. How can I establish a connection since the CP module doesn't appear when using the device proxy method?

Duris_I Diamond Expert Joined: 4/28/2015 Last visit: 11/27/2025 Posts: 10970 Rating: (844)	Hello, I have only one example for you, no exactly WinCC side but only example that CP can be added on Proxy without problems. My one test prj shows this inisde attachment, it was S7 connection between S7-1200 and old 315-2 with CP343-1. Really now I don't know what exactly problem you have with cfg options. I recommend maybe check WinCC manual for Proxy configurations as basic cfg and then do some tests. I expect also more Topics existed on Forum with Proxy devices cfg. There can be also other problem with exact CP protocol expected, my situation shows typical S7 connection (PUT/GET) and question is what he want to do. Yes, his CP order number and version can be also good to see that other users can give maybe more advices. I've understood his question like there isn't possible to add CP to Proxy, maybe I don't understand his question ok. It is expected better description and what he want to do.

There can be also other problem with exact CP protocol expected, my situation shows typical S7 connection (PUT/GET) and question is what he want to do. Yes, his CP order number and version can be also good to see that other users can give maybe more advices. I've understood his question like there isn't possible to add CP to Proxy, maybe I don't understand his question ok. It is expected better description and what he want to do. When the device proxy is initialized to upload the simatic project the whole hardware configuration is not uploaded to TIA. Only the CPU gets uploaded and my CPU doesn't have an ethernet port. This is exactly why we used CP so that we get an ethernet port in the simatic project but now after initializing the proxy and getting the project into TIA only CPU gets uploaded and the CPU only has an MPI port and therefore I cannot connect it to an HMI which only has an ethernet port. Maybe if i try to migrate the simatic project into TIA first and the whole hardware configuration including CP with the ethernet port is uploaded i might be able to connect it.
