S7-1200 To Printer Over TCP/IP

Noely Member Joined: 8/1/2017 Last visit: 4/10/2025 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have an application whereby I need to send ASCII strings to a Videojet M610 OEM printer over TCP/IP. This is my first time using this functionality. I have set up a PLC with some test code and I am able to send and receive data to and from my laptop using Hercules Setup Utility software. The problem I am having is that I get a þ character at the start of every string coming from the PLC. For example I want to send F0<eot> to the printer. However the PLC seems to be sending out þF0<eot>. Is there any way i can stop this character from sending? Regards, Noel

mopS04 Posts: 5521 Rating: (1058)	hi Noely, the first two byte of S7-Strings contains the maximum and actual length of the string. Convert the S7-string to an Array of Char and send the Array of Char. You find instructions for this in "extended instructions"->"String + Char": Strg_TO_Chars: Convert character string to Array of CHAR hope this helps, regards,

However, I still cannot get the printer to respond correctly but at this stage I do not think it is the command coming from the PLC. Regards, Noel

Duris_I Diamond Expert Joined: 4/28/2015 Last visit: 11/27/2025 Posts: 10970 Rating: (844)	Hello, I expect maybe use of ESC system to print some messages to printer, if this is your problem then check web for ESC sequence to print messages. Here you need be very careful to have correct send buffer filled because of use of special chars because you have string defined and here yo need use special chars notation. Without that you can't be lucky with printing, string is simple at view but hard to program to not have do mistakes with buffer manipulation.
