I've encoutered this problem also. This is the first time in years I had to 'Recreate cross references', i've never used the function.

I want to avoid mistakes / problems while monitoring and debugging.

Do you know the cause of the cross references? Is there a way to know I have ro recreate? Why doesn't this work with compiling the program? I can imagine big problems if this occurs regularly...

There are several things that might help you.  First, read the Siemens programming guidelines so you know why I am saying the following things.  It can be found with a quick search of this online support site.

Whatever the name of the FC which happens to have the #10 assigned (hopefully automatically numbered by TIA Portal), it should have an input parameter, type BOOL, replacing every usage of the tag current associated with I4.0.  In the call to that FC, the input should get passed in the tag name for I4.0.

This way, you will know exactly where I4.0 is used from your cyclic OBs, and the FC will have just internal tags and no global tags.

If you right-click on the tag pointing to I4.0 in the tag table and select cross-reference, what appears?  If it does not work, open our menu "Options" and scroll through the various options until you find the one that you can check to recreate cross references.  After you recreate the cross-references, try the right-click cross-reference check again in the tag table.  It should show something now.

Im using TIA v15.1, I have a project where I have a input 4.0, when I try to get its cross reference it doenst work, but, it is in FC10 and it is being used

What could be the mistake?
