If 180 PLCs have identicalI programs, then you only need ONE PLC and one Project.

You can then load the same program to every PLC.

Of course identical means these PLCs are not connected on the same network (without a gateway/router providing NAT translation and special Siemens protocol forwarding), and have the same PN name and IP.

Let's assume you mean the s7-1200's are all the same part #, but have 180 very similar but unique PLC projects.

If the only thing different is the PN name and IP, you might consider the TIA Automation Tool to help load one project to 180 PLCs, changing each PLC's PN name and IP.

Having 1 huge project is likely to explode tia portal, but you can easily try by making 1 project, copying it.  Then select those 2 PLCs, copy, paste.  Select those 4 PLCs, copy, paste.  Repeat the process of selecting all PLCs, copy/paste until you get 180.

Now click File->"Save as" to see if it can save the 180 projects.

If it can do that, you might be ok.  Definitely worth making sure your PG/PC has at least the recommended RAM (as opposed to the minimum RAM).

What is the maximum number of controllers in one TIA project?

I am looking at configuring 180 S1200 controllers, with identical, very small, programs.

Will I be able to do this in one TIA project?? [TIA 17]

Then I can copy / paste one controller and only change name and network settings.
