Perhaps I'm stupid or the website is badly configured.

Its four hours since I began looking for the Kitchen sample project, and I have got nowhere. Trust Siemens to make life a little more difficult

Thunderstorm tries hard to be helpful but the link he has posted takes you to the Batch-API project page!

Another well-intentioned gentleman provides a link to a page in german that I can't understand. Clicking the Sprache button and selecting 'English' leads to an error message.

I still have not located the demo Kitchen project.

you can find an application example with batch for the versions 8.0 to 9.0 at PCS 7 Unit Template "CIP - Cleaning in Place".
