Toblakai Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	840D SL NCU730.3 PN, Siemens 6FC5373-0AA30-0AA1 CNC SW 31-3, SW 4.5 SP4 HF4 CompactFlash card: 6FC5851-1XG41-4YA0 Our NCU would not boot up after the machine was powered down. The 840d 7-segment display flashed the text: L252=428. The RDY LED was solid orange. STOP and SU/PF flashed orange at 1Hz. We have already returned the machine to production by replacing the CF card, but we would like to learn more about the problem. The only information I can find says the following: “Lxx=yyy:Internal error when starting NCK, “xx” is the line number in the mcsystem.ini, “yyy” is a unique error code for the code position." - (from NCU operating system IM7) Is there any documentation regarding this internal fault? I can not find the mcsystem.ini file referenced in the error description. I ran a “sc check-cf” command through WinSCP and found: 3328 "bad sectors”. siemens/sinumerik/hmi/osal/fonts/fonts_std.cfs: read error: Input/output error siemens/sinumerik/hmi/appl.cfs: read error: Input/output error siemens/sinumerik/hmi/x3ds/turnonly.cfs: read error: Input/output error siemens/sinamics.cfs: read error: Input/output error system/x11.cfs: read error: Input/output error system/tcubasesys.cfs: read error: Input/output error My questions: What is this failure? Is it just a symptom of a corrupted CF card? Where is mcsystem.ini located? What causes ‘Bad sectors’ on the CF card and is that an indication that the card is likely to fail in the future? If the 'bad sectors' are the problem, what can I do to reduce ‘bad sectors’? From five machines, this is the 5^thCF card that we had to replace over the past 5 years. None of the previous faulty cards had this L252=248 fault, but they all exhibited many 'bad sectors'. Attachment l252.png (1024 Downloads)

wolves and hawks Posts: 531 Rating: (35)	Did you check the pins inside the ncu? Bad Sectors could also come from connection between NCU and CF Card. Does the NCU boot from eboot system usbstick?

Toblakai Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I tried booting with the usb plugged in, and it didn't respond any differently, but perhaps I set the eboot USB up incorrectly. I restored a backup of the NCU software to the faulty card and now it's booting successfully. When I originally checked the cfcard, the check-cf routine found 3328 bad sectors. After restoring card from usb, it found 2568 bad sectors and no Input/output read errors. Regarding the bad sectors, I didn't see anything wrong with the pins. A few years ago, we heard that perhaps the software was writing excessively to the cf card since it was heavily using SYNACT variables (SYG's supposedly write to the cf card) in synchronous actions. We changed most of these to $AC_PARAM variables to reduce this, but it hasn't seemed to help.

wolves and hawks Posts: 531 Rating: (35)	I never had a cf check report errors, that is why I was wanting to know whether the card / hardware might be defect. If there are still errors on the card after restore something is wrong. The card is formated during restore should not have errors afterwards. With the eboot stick you should normally see a clean boot without the system from the cf card. So one can check whether hardware is the issue. If eboot works most likely cf card is defect or the system on it. Otherwise ncu and cf card could be the trouble makers.
