I have some questions regarding IOT2050.
I have an application where it is required to gather 12 digital signals from proximity sensors and simple buttons, gather them in the IOT device and send them to a MQTT broker.

My questions are:
Do I need some expansion modules to gather the 12 Digital Inputs? I saw on the data sheet that it has 20DI, but is the Arduino shield a requirement for this application?
I have found that there are 2 expansion modules:
6ES7647-0KA01-0AA2 - 5x DI 2x AI 2x DQ, ARDUINO Shield for SIMATIC IoT2040 and IoT2050
and 6ES7647-0KA02-0AA2 - 10x DI, ARDUINO Shield for SIMATIC IoT2020 and IoT2040 but this last one is not compatible with IOT2050.
Because I have 12DI, I would need 3 of these: 6ES7647-0KA01-0AA2 ?
Is there another solution so as to send the digital signals to the IOT2050?

you can use the mentioned extension modules for the digital signals or you can use the Arduino Shield Interface with external Hardware (or directly on the PINS). For this you can have a look at the pin assignment of the interfaces at chapter 10.5.1 of the operating instructions. 

If you use the 6ES7647-0KA01-0AA2 module please make sure you are using the right cover for the IOT2050 (will be delivered with two covers - for IOT2050 and IOT2040).

For directly PIN -access (not common) I would also recommend you to have a look at the "Arduino Uno R3 Pinout" (just google it) which is used on the IOT2050.

The Example Image comes with GPIO node-red nodes to access the DIs / DQs.
