Use new CPU type in PCS7 V5.2 SP4

Let me restate that - it's well worth it to update your PCS7. Your job will be much easier.

Let me restate that - it's well worth it to update your PCS7. Your job will be much easier. I'm facing the same kind of problem here. I have an existing plant on PCS7 V5.2 SP3 (With Step7 v5.1 SP3 HF1as part ofit) and want to replace the 417 CPU with a current model. Why? Because there is some crappy software in it that uses lots and lotsof resource/cycletimeand it even has to be expandedat short notice. There is no time/resource/money to redesign/rewrite the app or upgrade PCS7. Sowe opt for the 'brute force' method. A new powerfull CPUto chew the code (CPU may be re-used later when the system is upgraded in a decent way). WhenI search the forum and support pages,I find a lot ofinfo on how to upgrade the hardware catalog of the 'standard' step 7 package, butI can't find any info on doing this forPCS7 forsystem components (like CPU's) that are not present in the latest PCS7 v5 version (V5.2 SP4). I know from the past that, when a new CPU model was released which was not present in the hardwarecatalog of the revision of the system we had,you just couldreplace theCPU physically with the newer model (without adapting HW config). Hardwareconfig detected the mismatch of CPU-models.... but it just worked. But now we're talking about replacing a 6ES7417-4XL01-0AB0 with a 6ES7417-4XT05-0AB0 which is a difference of quite a number of models in between.... Any chance on succes ??? Hope somebody has some useful info on this....

CBo Gold Member Joined: 4/5/2006 Last visit: 10/3/2025 Posts: 917 Rating: (63)	Hi mrich, looking the technical data about redundant CPUs: - 6ES7417-4XL04-0AB0FW 4 can be programmed with Step7 v5.2 SP1 HF3 or higher - product canceled from 2007 - 6ES7417-4XT05-0AB0 FW5 can be programmed with Step7 v5.3 SP2 or hugher production canceled means items gone in phaseout period (usually 10 years), so you can order as well as spare part giving back the broken one and CPU gives compatibility with previuos releases (better check with your localk customer support if you need replace a very old one). The new CPU (2nd listed above) need new Step7 version, it always keeps compatibility with previuos releases, but i suggest you to be carefully because the new CPU changed a lot inside Regards

mrich Posts: 32 Rating: (5)	Hi all, Recently had the chance just totry it.... Replaced the CPU with a much more recentmodel (notthe newest) but it didn't even recognised the CPU. Couldnot evenconnect over MPI, just did'nt 'see' it. So i'm afraid this is a dead end... ?? Greetingz... Marcel
