Object properties modification via VBS/C script: Unhandled exception raised.

Fran Posts: 26 Rating: (1)	Hi all! I think somebody asked you about this issue, but I can't find the answer, so... I´m working with WinCC 6.0.3.0 under Windows XP SP2 in a virtual machine VM Ware Workstation 5.5.1. In my project there are some groups (switches drawn with lines and rectangles grouped) which I want to change their properties (color and visibility) depending on a PLC tag (input, output, DB). I have written VB and C scripts to do that. There is no problem when I use internal tags. However when using PLC tags the rutime crashes. To test the project I give to the PLC tag an initial value (no the best way to test it, I know). When I change this value in the Tag Logging with the runtime activated, it crashes and get the following message box: "Unhandled exception raised. See WinCC Diagnose Directory" and in the .log file I read "Access violation". If I use Dinamic Dialog instead of scripts, it works properly (testing it in the same way as described above). What is more: There is no problem if there is only one script in the group. It crashes if there are more of one (for example, a script for two properties of one element, or one script for one properties of various elemets of a group grouped previously). The event trigger of the script is set to the involucrated tags (250 ms). Any ideas?. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if it helps, but change the update ratefrom 250 ms to 1 second (as stated by Salma in an earlier post). For internal tags 250 ms (or upon change) is oke. For external tags use 1 second. with regards, Ikkezelf

Salma Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	I should also mention that I tested your PDL and it worked fine. I used SP4 but the scripts all look like they will work with SP3 hotfix 2. Some things worth mentioning : Why not use Dynamic Dialogs for such simple scripts ? (fyi, these work for you because they create C scripts, not VBS scripts) If you need to use a script then you should optimise your code. Declare two variables in your script and write the current tag values into these variables. You can then use the variables in your script and not repeatedly read the tags. Here is an example : [code] Function BorderColor_Trigger(Byval Item) Dim tag1, tag2 tag1 = HMIRuntime.Tags("opc_bitprueba").Read tag2 = HMIRuntime.Tags("opc_bitprueba1").Read If tag1 = 0 And tag2 = 1 Then BorderColor_Trigger=vbGreen Else If tag1 = 1 And tag2 = 0 Then BorderColor_Trigger=vbRed Else BorderColor_Trigger=vbYellow End If End If End Function [/code] This means that you only read the tags once at the start of the script. This will speed up the execution time of the script.
