WHAT IS THE NESSECITY OF PRECHARGING OF CAPACITOR FOR DRIVES WHICH ARE NOT USED FOR THE LONG TIME. |

Hi Tukaram, Long periods of storage have virtually no effect on a Capacitor's resistance and dissipation factor, but there is a tendency for leakage current to increase and for voltage capability to decrease. That said, a reduced voltage capacity is not ideal then if you suddenly apply DC Link volts to them. The exact chemistry I am not sure, but I believe it is something to do with the settling of the dielectric, but don't quote me on that. Suffice to say, they do sometimes go with a hell of a BANG if you don't perform this task. RRU rectifiers and AFE's have this function built in, so if you have one, you can attach it to your drive and start the function, otherwise, you have to build the circuit as per the attached manual, I have built and used this on a Micromaster MM440 in the past, it is a sound design.
