Hello algudkar: In this FAQ that discusses hardware that can be connected to the USB port of the Windows-based panels, they mention:
This FAQ confirms that you do not need a CPU for connection of the bardcode readers: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/40923010 So if your barcode reader is ASCII-based, you should be able to connect it to a TP 277.
