Convert IP242 to S7-400 FM Modules

venombyte Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I have S5 135U system with CPU 6ES5 928-3UA12 and three counter module, IP242 6ES5242-1AA13. That was very old IP242 as it isn't IP242 A/B. From S5 to S7 Converter manual i have read that card should be changed to standard S7 counter module (FM450-1). But for now, i haven't that card and i have FM451 6ES7451-3AL00-0AE0 which is positioning and counter module. I know that card is over-spec compared to S5 card and i have to do my project soon. Could i still use FM451 to replace IP242 ? many thanks for any feedback... Attachment 6ES5242-1AA13.jpg (267 Downloads)

We just replaced 3 Nos. on -1AA31 modules with a combination of 1 No.FM 350-2 , and 2 Nos. FM-350-2 and the system is working fine. IP242 was basically a Counter module. So theoretically you can use FM 451. However you are right that this is overspeced. You would be using mainly the counting functions of what is a positioning module. You should consider FM450 instead, which may be closer to your requirement. However pl check the Max required Counter Freqency / SIgnal voltage level ( 5V / 24V ) to ensure a suitable replacement. venombyte Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi Navnag , thanks for your answer and I am sure that cards were 6ES7-242-1AA13 which are IP242 (not IP242A / IP242B). For now i have no time to order FM450 which is counter module for S7-400. The Signal voltage level from encoders is 24V.
