Problem Due to the inefficiencies inherent to Dynamic Dialogs during Runtime it is strongly encouraged to avoid them. Since it is simple to convert a Dynamic Dialog to a script this is a good start, however, having this script executed every few seconds is unnecessary. Instead, it is possible to setup the object so that the script is only called when needed. This is what will be explained in this document. Solution See attached (text too long). Usually setting objectsvisible or invisible you can use a direct link. Also generating picture objects is possible (create and update A little bit less performance: Dynamic dialog (red "lamp") whith ONE tag and no function. So just 'TagName' in the dialog is almost the same performance as direct linking. Again a little bit less performance: Dynamic dialog (red "lamp") whith ONE tag and no function and a bit selection from the configured tag. So just 'TagName' in the dialog is almost the same performance as direct linking. Again less performance. Dynamic dialog (red "lamp") whith MORE then ONE tag and/or function. Again less performance. C-script (green "lamp") And....never use cyclic scripts. just my experience good luck, Jaap

In any case, the above documents recommendation on how to convert from a Dynamic Dialog, to a C-Script, is to use an Event Drive script (C or VB is not really relevant). There have been numerous instances of performance problems (slow screen updates, sluggish performance), which were eventually traced back to the use of Dynamic Dialogs. For this reason, it is recommended to use Customized Objects, and use Event driven scripts instead.

But only when you use ONE configured tag and event driven. The only disadvantage is that PCS7 can not create and update blocks and change the configured tag whith dynamic dialog. So I only use it in pop-ups never in block icons placed directly on the working area. These block icons always use only direct connections in the typicals I make . Another tip is to dived the use of scripting and dynamic dialog to balance the performance. But maybe I'm wrong whith the present version of WinCC. From V3 upwords to V6 it was my experience. Jaap
