motor without encoder

We use machine based on Sinumerik 840Di (NCU: 06.03.02 PCUXX E2 18-12-02 10:41:5 6FC5258-2AY10-2AF0) with Simodrive 611U (control module 6SN1118-0NH01-0AA0), inductance motor (1PH7163-2ND00-0BA2) as main spindle motor. We have problem with main spindle motor encoder. Is there any possibility to exclude this encoder from operation by means of axis machine data and drive data, so that spindle motor works as motor without encoder? Thanks in advance. Best wishes.

tavi Posts: 50 Rating: (7)	Hi Andrem, On spindle MD will find MD30200 NUM_ENCS and should be set to 0 and this should be enough or for better understanding check 840D_Startup GUIDE on http://www.automation.siemens.com/doconweb/content.asp?item=11640&cd=sinumerik_0107_e&scope=all and on Chapter 6 will find the MD. Andrem Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi tavi. Thank you for reply. We tried to set MD 30200=0 already, but it did not help. The encoder error (E504 on the drive display) did not disappear. Then we set drive data P1006=98 ( no encoder connected to the drive), but we got error E881 (PZD configuring: The process data for encoder has been configured although encoderless operation is activated ) on the drive display. Now we are thinking of Profibus DP telegram type changing, so that this type does not include encoder information. Are we right? By the way, is it safe to exclude encoder from operation for inductance motor? Will not we damage motor or drive in this way? Best wishes. Andrem.

If with help SimoComU to configure the engine without the gauge, or to register the engine as the usual asynchronous motor. Thus 30130=1, 30200=0, 30240=0. Successes.

Dave Posts: 271 Rating: (29)	Hello Andrem, If all you want to do is to test the drive to see if it will run properly without the encoder, this is easily done using SimoCom U software used for diagnosis and commissioning of the Simodrive 611U plug-in control unit. If you want to continue to operate the machine in automatic mode without the motor encoder, this is a completely different matter! You'll essentially have to recommission the CNC as the CNC itself is looking for the encoder signal and the telegram via Profibus needs to be changed, etc. I recommend that you test the motor to see that the spindle will run via the SimoCom U software and make arrangements as necessary to repair or replace the motor encoder / cables. Hope this helps...
