Difference between star and thankyou and which one to use where

I think both serve the same purpose. However when a person rate a star his identity is unknown so to say thanks he also click thanks; should not it be possible; if you rate someone; a thankyou should be posted by Default.

Of course when it is need. Do not make them as SPAM. The idea is if it is really some answer help or is useful to use them. What is the difference? Both are with the same meaning "Thanks". For Example: X person joins the fourm and he ask Simple question but let me tell you for him it may not a simple question.. So if Some one know the answer and he gives clear cut information which solve x person prblem immediately then X person must give Star. But instead of that Some one will provide some releate link which helps him to go in proper direction to solve the problem instead of leaving the dark without a solution he must atleast Thanks. Now that depends on X person or rather to say person to person what he want give we cannot force him to do so all the time.

Rating is related to the quality of a post, and thanks are not related to quality. Let´s try to explain it with one or two examples: 1) A user had a problem which was solved by a solution you gave him. Now he just writes that the solution from you helped him. For this post he often gets thanks. But this post isn´t of high quality, so ratings/stars i think aren´t good. 2) A user writes an answer to a question, but this answer is totally wrong, but the user,who asked, wants to thank for the trial to help. So the post was totally wrong and of not good quality, but it is ok to give them a thank. Thank you doesn´t say anything about the quality of a post, it is just saying "thank you" for trying to help me. And the ratings should be used for saying how high the quality of a post is.
