How can I make ALARM_8P input generate an alarm status for a Plant Area

timoreardon Posts: 22 Rating: (2)	Hi All, Hopefully a simple thing to do but it is stumping me right now, but I would like to make the group display on the screen buttons at the top of my PCS7 screens to show the alarm, process monitoring alarms etc when any alarm in that area is triggered that is not already associated with a block icon. Maybe better to try and explain an example. I have a pressure sensor that I have connected to a MEAS_MON block in a CFC chart. This all worksfine and gives me a block icon on the relevant screen and will automatically generate alarms when the pressure goes outside the alarm and warning limits defined in the CFC. This will then make the group display for this area have the red A (for alarm) or yellow W (for warning) and so on when it goes outside those limits. Trouble is, this pressure sensor can have multiple alarm limits depending on not just it's actual pressure value, but the state of the plant at any particular moment. For example, if a certain set of valves are open then the maximum pressure would be at a certain level, if the valves are in a different state then my maximum pressure would may then be different and so on. I have already used an additional ALARM_8P block in my CFC to generate these alarms and the alarms all appear no problem in the alarm banner and on the alarm pages but the group display status of my MEAS_MON block icon and thegroup display status for that particular page does not indicate that there is an alarm assocaited with that plant area or that pressure sensor and I do not know how to make that happen. Is the a way of triggering the alarm status of a page or a block icon so I can make the red A / yellow W / black S and so on appear ablock icon and/or page? Or 'merging' the alarm status of a MEAS_MON block and an ALARM_8P block? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

timoreardon Posts: 22 Rating: (2)	Hi Phantom75, I managed to use the FAQ you suggested togetthe OS to have a .EventState value for my new MESSAGE block and using a few other FAQs suggestion have got the block icon to update the group display with my new alarms so all good there. The thing I'm struggling with now is how to make the group display adjacent to the area buttons at the top of the screen also show the A, W, S and so on when my new MESSAGE block in my CFC chart goes into alarm? I've hunted about and tried a few things suggested on the forum in the OS Project Editor but to no avail. Anyone got a suggestion on how this is done? Thanks Tim

A complete OS compile is required after placing the block/CFC in the proper positionin the Plant Hierarchy.

Bilal Moolla Posts: 133 Rating: (9)	Hi timorearon Was your problem resolve? I am faced with a similar situation. The indication of an alarm is not coming through to the group display. We have created customized block icons and faceplates. The alarms appear on the mainline of the alarm indication overview but does not come through to the individual hierarchy group display. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you read about Group displays in "PCS 7 - Configuration Manual Operator Station" manual? Look at chapter "8.14 Configuring group displays" Have you tried to update Group displays? For example, when starting the OS Project Editor with the "Create/update group displays" check box activated. 8.14.5.2 How to automatically create a group display hierarchy for pictures Procedure 1. Select the OS Project Editor in WinCC Explorer 2. Select the shortcut menu command Open. 3. Select the "Message display" tab. 4. Select the "Create/update group displays" check box.
