How many PID loops on the S7-1214 ??

We would like to convert existing hardware controllers on the program, but we need 8 to 16 control loops. Relay outputs switch and control heating or active cooling. Is there a better solution?

However there is no limitaiton about the number of PID in a S7-1200 itself: the limitation is the total of memory usage and the scan cycle of the PLC.

However, I would like to give an oppinion: PID is a relactive sensible function. Normally is related with critical parts (for safety or productions reasons). So, I think that a PID tunning should be monitored by the programer 100% of time, so that if something "strange" occurs, it should be possible to assume in manual mode, etc. I this context runs more than one PID tunning at same timecould bedangerous. On other hand, running just one PID tunning per time, the limit, by itself, is not relevant.

Pegaia, "...Naturally you should test and conclude it..." This is one of my biggest pet peeves with Siemens. I have been given this kind of answer to an awful lot of my questions. I could accept this from a mom and pop business producing a niche product for a small customer base but I believe that a global company like Siemens selling a product with a very large appeal could have more specific answers more often. Mr, Pegaia, I do not mean to pick on you, you are very helpful here on this forum and the explanation you went on to give Mr. Librouk made sense and was helpful. It's just that the way you worded your first line illustrated a frustration I have had with Siemens as a whole.

It's just that the way you worded your first line illustrated a frustration I have had with Siemens as a whole. If you have an older (FW 2.x) S7-1214 PLC nearly logic bound (working memory nearly full) and you keep adding PIDs until it fills up, your non-PID logic solving time will suffer. In a very slow system, that may be absolutely fine. In a very dynamic system, it may result in lost production or actions may be delayed and result in bad product (scrap). If all your PLC has to do is PIDs, you may be able to add 10 without adverse effects with sufficient planning and interrupt controls. Since PIDs tend to use cyclic interrupts, perhaps the limit is 4 PIDs without any real effort per the s7-1200 system manual: Cyclic interrupt OBs execute at a specified interval. A cyclic interrupt OB will interrupt cyclic program execution at user defined intervals, such as every 2 seconds. You can configure up to a total of 4 for both the time-delay and cyclic events at any given time, with one OB allowed for each configured time-delay and cyclic event. The OB must be OB 200 or greater.
