Red Alert Posts: 23 Rating: (1)	Dear Saga, Kindly check the cables IF1 & IF2. Each cable have 2 cores, that mean In One cable itself Sending (First Core) and Receiving (Another Core) is possible. But My notification is that if anyone cable become probelem, then the reserve CPU goes to Stop. Kindly check this... Regards, Red Alert

muffi Posts: 95 Rating: (10)	dmertens The redundancy synchronisation needs more bandwidth than one FO connection can provide, therefor there are 2 connections, this is in no way a redundant connection, if one of the two FO connections is interrupted the backup PLC will go to STOP. Through fiberoptic only the program scan are performed identically in both system. and one more reason Baud rate of fiberoptic is high more than profinet and other type of communication mediums.

I totally agree that we use two sync module since the redundancy require high bandwidth. but my question was "If one out of the two got faulty. will it hamper the system ? since second sync module is working, redundancy between two CPUs should remain healthy.......... Reg, Ashish Hello, Redundancy can not work with only one Sync Module per each CPU. Two Sync. modules per each CPU should be plugged and the two patch cables should be plugged as well. According to S7-400H manual: Function of the synchronization modules Synchronization modules are used for communication between two redundant S7-400H CPUs. You require two synchronization modules per CPU, connected in pairs by fiber-optic cable. The system supports hot-swapping of synchronization modules, and so allows you to influence the repair response of the fault-tolerant systems and to control the failure of the redundant connection without stopping the plant. If you remove a synchronization module in redundant system mode, there is a loss of synchronization. The reserve CPU changes to ERROR-SEARCH mode for some minutes. If the new synchronization module is inserted and the redundant link is reestablished during this time, the reserve CPU switches to redundant system mode, otherwise it switches to STOP. Once you have inserted the new synchronization module and reestablished the redundant link, the standby CPU links up and updates. SIMATIC Fault-tolerant Systems S7-400H Please check Chapter 15. One more thing I would like to mention here: If you wire synchronization modules crosswise, i.e. the IF1 interface of the first CPU with the IF2 interface of the second CPU and vice versa, the two CPUs take over the master role and the system will now function properly. The LEDs IFM 1 and IFM 2 are lit on both CPUs. Make sure that you connect the IF1 interface of the first CPU with the IF1 interface of the second CPU and the IF2 interface of the first CPU with the IF2 interface of the second CPU.
